Prof. Kim Jensen
Kim Jensen is Professor and Executive Director for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW, at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Professor Jensen’s research focuses on the intestine and understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern stem cell fate specification following severe tissue damage leading to tissue regeneration.
Specifically, he is interested in mapping how specific gene regulatory networks affect the process of repair, with the aim to exploit these for fuelling wound healing in patients with ulcerating disorders.
Over the past 14 years Professor Jensen has identified cellular dedifferentiation as a pivotal step in tissue repair in the intestinal epithelium following damage involving the appearance of cells in a unique regenerative cell state.
By combining studies using mouse and organoid models from both mouse and patient samples, the long-term aim of research in the Jensen lab is to translate result from these models into regenerative therapies.
